Chiropractic Care should be a part of every woman’s complete health plan throughout pregnancy. Chiropractic adjustments can be safely adapted to any stage of pregnancy right up through labor and delivery with no negative side effects.

A pelvis compromised by a life time of stress and trauma can lead to difficulty in labor.
Women under regular chiropractic care can experience a labor time 24-39% shorter than women who are not getting adjusted on a regular basis.

Benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy include;

* Helps maintain pregnancy
* Decrease nausea and vomiting
* Ease Back Pain
* Stop premature contractions
* Healthier labor & delivery
* Healthier babies
* Decrease incidence of postpartum depression
* Allows breech babies to turn

The majority of women who are under regular chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy wonder how women make it through without getting adjusted!

Your baby’s first adjustment should happen as soon as possible after birth. Even what appears to be the most gentle birth can cause misalignment / subluxation of the delicate structures of baby’s neck.

Don’t delay your child’s  first check up, their nerve system is depending on it.

~The Webster Technique~

By the 36th or 37th week, your baby should be turning head down. If for any reason, your baby has not decided to turn, there may be an obstruction blocking that transition for them. The Webster Technique, is a completely non-invasive, gentle chiropractic technique that was developed by Dr. Larry Webster to allow babies the freedom to turn inside their mom’s belly.  adj preg3

The medical field offers the option of an external cephalic version (ECV) or watch and wait. There are many risks to consider with an ECV such as vaginal bleeding, premature rupture of the membranes, fetal distress or even premature labor. The procedure itself has only a 50% success rate at best.

Although there is no explanation for half of the babies that have not yet turned, we know that something must have stopped this normal transition. Dr. Larry Webster discovered that a misalignment of the pelvis, which is not detected by your MD, is associated with baby not turning. When this alignment and movement is restored by a chiropractor, the baby turns. There is a success rate of 82% (JMPT 2002) in the effectiveness of this technique, and there are no negative side effects or complications.

It is best to be under chiropractic care by the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy for an abnormal presentation. Starting at the last minute may lead to success and is worth a try, however a few adjustments are necessary in order for the technique to work. Once baby turns, it is important for mom to continue getting adjusted to ensure a safer and easier birth for both mom and baby.

My name is Jessica and I came to Horn Family Chiropractic when I was 36 weeks pregnant with my third child. My baby at the time was breech and transverse. I had read on the internet about the Webster Technique and how beneficial it could be to women of my condition. At that time I decided to give Chiropractic a try. After my first adjustment I was able to feel the baby making big improvements that same afternoon. By the next morning I could feel legs and feet by my ribcage. I was scheduled for an ECV, which is known to be painful, the next week for which I was instructed not to eat or drink after midnight in case an emergency C-Section was needed. At my next pre-natal appointment it had been confirmed that my baby had indeed flipped! I’m so glad I tried Chiropractic and the Webster Technique first. The process was safe, gentle and the staff at Horn Family Chiropractic was very helpful and attentive to all my needs. Chiropractic was definitely the smart choice for me.j raber
